Tobi's Picture Diary

Postby lainmai » Sat Aug 07, 2010 7:42 pm

Since I'm way too happy and proud of a mom of my little boy I figured I'd make ONE topic to post my boys pictures on instead of a million ;)

I am nothing short of jealous of everyone's cameras & skills! My camera is a rather old Minolta

First up: Tobi @ play!

I managed to catch Tobi a few times without reacting to the camera or my movements while he played with a few toys outside of his cage.

Very cute, but parts of him (namely around his eye, closer to his nares and on the leg near the band) seem awfully reddish..camera issues?

Yeah, its mostly the camera. He is pink in tone around his mouth and a bit of his nares still but nothing out of the ordinary. One of the downsides of crappy lighting in my room as well as a 6 or 7yo digital camera

Most came from a mix of PetSmart or PJ's Pets here in Ontario. His foot toys and plastic chain came from Parrotdise Perch also here in Ontario :D

He looks great. How old is he?

I must say he looks an awful lot like a brown-headed parrot. If it weren't for the yellow vest, really looks like one. Kili never looked that way as a baby so I'm curious if it's because you got this one even younger or as a sub-species difference.

He is about a week younger than the other pair, two at most so he'd of been born around April 27th-early May. He is a purebred Sennie, but may down the line be a hybrid of a subspecies. His parents are both rather large which both he and his brother also appear to take this trait. He weighs in now at 143-146 grams "empty"

So that would make him 12-14 weeks at the time of acquisition? That's interesting cause Kili was 12 weeks when I got her and she really never looked like such a baby.

Ok, ignore the stress bars for a second (yes yours has better plumage coming from a breeder) but you see she looked quite different as a baby. I'm trying to figure out if this is a difference in subspecies or something else. From when I got her she had a black beak and silvery eyes, unlike yours. Also yours looks more orange in the vest. Would someone more familiar with the Senegal subspecies care to explain?

(Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread, just curious because yours as a baby looks quite different than mine so I'm just wondering. If it's a problem we can move this to a new topic).

Tobi is indeed an orange vest - not a yellow. When he is done taking his nap I'll try and get more pictures of his feet/beak. They are pinkish in tone but not "screaming" in color like the previous pictures depict. I'm also interested in the differences, might have to do more research into the differences in the subspecies! This might also help explain his larger overall size from the other Sennie which was on hold for me (Tobi version 1.0?) which was literally half this boys size, a week or two older and a yellow vest.
