How to tame my Sennie?

Postby Erithacus » Mon Jun 06, 2011 3:36 am

I am not good with wild bird. Whenever I put my hand in the cage, Kilaya gets nervous. He jumps down from the perch and climbs all over in the cage. He does allow me to scratch his head but then he is in some sort of defensive position. He will sit at the bottom of the cage with his beak touching the base when I scratch his head. He is flighted. I read from experts that wing clipping is necessary to tame a wild bird. As you know that I am not a fan of wing clipping. Any suggestions?

I once had a wild caught parrot. It was clipped and it took him 1 year to be tame.

I would start clicker training.

If you go into the 'taming' section of this forum, and read through Michael's training blog, there's a really good article on taming birds. I highly suggest you read it because it is very detailed and informative.
