New member birdie owner

Never been on a forum before, my birdie is a 23 year old Maximilian pionus. Has been on pellets all his life except for 1 scoopful of mixed small cockatiel seeds. His beak grows quite long, which I trim, he also has a fat pad between his legs. I researched this, but it's not an issue as far as I have learned. Only problem is that it drags on the perches so it's bare. That's all I can think of for now. :D

Hi, CLS and pie, welcome to the forum. i don't know what exactly you mean by 'research' but an overgrown beak and fatty tumors ALWAYS mean advanced liver malfunction. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take him to the vet and ask for a bile acids test. Pionus feed on flowers, buds, fruits, leaves and green seeds (very low protein and very high moisture 85-95%), pellets and dry seeds (high protein and very low moisture max of 10%) damage their liver and kidneys. Please do a more in-depth research using only scientific sources for his diet but take him to the vet because, if you don't, he will die before his time.
