Another Canuck

Postby born2fly » Sun Aug 22, 2010 4:03 pm

Hello Everyone,

My name is Chris and I live in Mississauga ON. My two guys are WALL-E the GCC and Buddy the Red-Bellied, both are flighted.

Both of my birds are rehomes which presents some challanges but rewards as well.

WAll-E is two and a half, I got him over a year ago. It took some time but he's tame and well adjusted.

My Red-Bellied was a rescue/rehome he's aprox 6 years old. He came to me 3 months. He's a scared and timid bird. I have had some limited success with him, but I guess patience is the name of the game.

Joining to hopefully learn something and share my 2 cents where possible.

Hi and welcome!

I would say that patience is indeed the way to go with your Red-bellied.
When I first got Joey, my own male Red-bellied, he was also rather shy and nervous around certain people and still had a few panic attacks (which I later learned where a Red-bellied thing, specially amongst the younger ones). After a little patience and some work on our trust, he's become a different bird, more outgoing, more confident as well.

I have to say, I also saw a difference in him when allowing his flight feathers to grow in (his former owner used to cut them, I let them grow and once he figured he could fly, he gained a lot of confidence).

Hey, just cause you're down a point doesn't mean you gotta be soliciting votes from new members. Hey born2fly, have you ever thought about moving down to the states where it's warmer?

Michael thank you for the invite but I like my winters just as much as the summers. Besides my igloo would melt ;)
