Hello and welcome! How about some photos?

We really are about to be outnumbered by the Canadians aren't we?

Hi and thanks for the welcome!

I am currently in the process of trying to recover some pictures from a computer where they were all stored and will as soon as I get them.

I will also take some new ones in the next week or so and post them!

Oh yah us Canucks have a secret mission to take over the forum....LOL

Since you have both parrotlets and budgies, I'm wondering, how are they similar and how are they different? I'm asking about personality, noise/volume, interest in toys, etc. I know there are many different species of parrotlets, but I'm just curious about how they are in general.

Also, budgies and parrotlets are approximately the same size, and yet budgies are much more available and a lot cheaper than parrotlets. Why do you think this is so?

I'm wondering similar things! : ) All I ever read/hear is that parrotlets are like mini amazons. Well, I don't know what an Amazon is like so it would be interesting to hear a first-person account!

And welcome, from another Canadian!

Parrotlets are not as busy, playful or chatty as Budgies. They are more like a miniature parrot if that makes sense. Meaning they act more like a bigger parrot in a small parrot body. This is based on my experience of hand raising them. I do not know how they are as adults.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcomes!!

The earlier posts are correct. My budgies are very busy, grooming, playing, chattering (very soft voices though) all the time. My budgies love all of their toys and are super thrilled when I rotate them. Their fave toy overall is a hamster wheel that they actually run in and sometimes sleep in.They bond very well to their people if hand raised or if tamed down and this does not differ in my parrotlets, they too love me very much even though almost all of my birds live in pairs or group flight cages.

My parrotlets seem to like their boing ropes and their sleeping huts more than their toys overall but they do certainly tear into their toys quite regularly. They are avid climbers....both my budgies and parrotlets have access when they are out to a sisal rope ladder/hammocky thingy (lol) and my parrotlets are on it a lot. My parrotlets remind me of a jack russell, little guys who think they can take on the world or at least my conures and lately my eclectus...lol

My budgies will turn tail and fly if they see the bigger birds coming close.

I do have both parrotlets and budgies who talk but my 2 male parrotlets seem to learn new words quicker than the budgies and maintain a much larger vocabulary.

As far as the availability and pricing I believe this has a lot to do with the fact that budgies have been in the pet trade for so much longer than parrotlets therefore there is many more of them driving down the price.

Hope this helps answer some of your questions!

Thanks! : )

Are the parrotlets aggressive towards your budgies? Or do you not let them play together? And are parrotlets just as sweet and friendly as budgies, or just simply different?
