A Budgie and a Cape from Virginia

Postby lotus15 » Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:24 am

Hi everybody!! We're new here but we were doing some youtube searching for fellow Capes and found Truman :) My name is Coco and I am the "mom" of two beautiful parrots, Charles (English Budgie) and Lola (Cape Parrot).

Here's a photo of my two:

Congratulations! You have wrested the "Most Mismatched Pair including a Cape" from my hands!

What steps did you take to socialize the two? So far we have been very cautious with Scotty :cape: and Scooter :gcc: .

Happy to see another Cape owner, there are few enough of us, it is nice to trade notes!

Thanks for the welcome :)

As far as socialization, they spent a lot of time getting used to each other between cage bars and such. In the beginning I'd take one out at a time and we'd go up to the other's cage, have a chat, etc. I would never have introduced them if either were aggressive, but Charles is the most friend-desperate budgie ever (his cage mate passed away earlier this year, sadly), and Lola is the gentlest giant around. She has never once bitten anybody her entire life. That being said though their actual introduction was an accident as Charles snuck out of a feeder door when I was changing his water, flew right up to Lola, and got to preening! I very very closely supervise them at all times but they do love each other so.
