If I take my birds for examples...I do cover their cages but that doesn't stop some of them (Piper in particular) to wake up early and start making noise.

We cover Lucy and Jessie's cages at night and 8am is about Jessie's limit too ... but he's too cute because he climbs down and starts peeking out from under the blanket and whispers 'peekaboo'. It is a lot more noticeable at the trailers in the summer. :)

I dunno, works for me. Maybe even if covered she'll start making noise by 11AM but usually when I uncover her at 10AM, I'm the one waking her up. But I try to keep the room dark as well as the sheet so I bet that helps. If you have sun coming in through windows, covering the cage may not be enough.

Yes, there is a patio door and large window right by their cages. The earlier the sun rises, the earlier they rise ;o) Doesn't really bother me though ... I'm usually awake before they are ... my step-kids are the only one that complain.

Trust me, they don't get much sympathy from me or their dad ;)

Is my parrot the only one that actually doesn't get up early in the morning? On weekends he'll stay quiet until he hears that we're awake. If I don't make any noise I can sleep in or read until 11am and he doesn't make a sound! The second he hears one of us talking or moving around he starts right up though.

I have curtains in my birdroom, some dark ones and some lighter ones, and I try to use a darker coloured cage cover for the birds that get up early and make noise (aka pretty much only Piper). It doesn't really seem to make a difference, when he's up, he's up.

I don't really hear up until I myself have woken up and all his chirping will do is prevent me to fall back asleep.

When I do have a house, I'll probably opt to have the birdroom not share a wall with my bedroom if I can.

Mine go to sleep when I do and wake up when I do. They stay covered and quietly asleep until about noon. I'm a night owl and so are they by default.

Jasper wakes with the song birds. Once he starts hearing the robins and finches he just gets started up. He reserves his most shrill shrieking for telling me he is hungry and doesn't like what's left in the food bowl.
