Can pet store birds live long lives?

Postby Niyasbirds » Tue Dec 12, 2023 11:56 am

Is it possible for a petstore bird to live a long life if they are transitioned to a good diet quickly? Or will they just pass either way due to genetics?

Yes and no. Yes, ALL birds will live a longer, healthier and happier life if cared for properly (it's not only food, it's solar schedule, flight, housing, type of artificial lights, etc) but ALL birds (breeder or petstore bought) are genetically inferior to wild birds. Now, if the question is whether birds bought from a breeder are 'better' than the ones we could buy from a store... well, ALL pet birds are bred by a breeder, the petstore is just the intermediary. Are some breeders better than others? Of course! But ALL parent birds are genetically inferior, both the breeders' and the birdfarm ones. Also, people who love and actually know about birds would never even consider breeding them. Only people who don't really care do.

As I know, parrots and other birds can live up to 10 to 50 years or more depending on the type and the conditions they live in
