Female Budgie Pregnant but Wont Lay Eggs?

Hello,

I've a female parakeet about six years old who seems to be pregnant but who won't lay her eggs. She's been in such a condition for a few months. Her feathers are fluffed out and she strains to poop. One can see the shape of an egg at her base and she is too heavy to fly. At first I thought she was constipated and then eggbound. After consulting a breeder they told me that she isn't likely to be eggbound because in that condition a bird would die quickly whereas this has been going on for a long time. She doesn't appear to be prolapsed but I'm not an expert


I've tried to place various kinds of nesting boxes around the cage to encourage her to lay but she refuses to enter them. I thought if she lay her egg or eggs it would give her relief. It hurts me to see her suffering, I've no idea what else to do for her. She doesn't seem to have an instinct to isolate and lay her eggs. Does the community her have any advice ? I would greatly appreciate insight into this issue.

Yes, I have advice for you: take her to an avian vet because she is sick and what you think is an egg could be a tumor.
