Why is my cockatiel shivering?

Postby chikha » Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:55 pm

I have a 4 month old cockatiel. He is shivering, what might be the reason for this? I put his cage where there is a shade of sunlight. He whistles just a while ago and he is perching on top of the cage . I just noticed that he is shivering when I check him out now

How old is he?
How long have you had him?
Also check this webpage out so you can learn to better understand your bird. http://www.loveyourparrot.com/birdcommunication.html
Of course the sight i mentioned is nothing compaired to "The parrot forum" :D
On this sight it says that shaking can mean that the parrot is scared or sick, depending on how long you have had the bird can determine if the bird is scared or not.
hope that helps.

He is 4 months. I got him about 2 months ago. I put him now on his T-stand a while ago. He knows basic tricks like shake hands, turn around, show his wings. I let him do that and he respond to me quickly when I told him to do that .Right now he is perching on my shoulder and preening me and himself. Is my bird sick?

Hi....

I think birds just sometime do that.....I have 4 tiels and my Bella (2 1/2 years old now) has had a slight shiver/quiver about her since I got her at 5 months old ( her nick name is "scaried pants").....thankfully she has never been sick a day in her life.....

as long as your baby is eating, playing, pooping, and enjoying your company as usual I'm sure everything is fine........if anything seems different about her/his demeanor than get a vet check to confirm everything is fine.....

good luck and enjoy your new baby...... :D

Sunlight is good for birds. It helps their bodies make and absorb Vitamin D and gives their plumage a nice shine.

If his feet are cold when he shivers, it could mean he is chilled. Try putting his cage in the sunlight for a while to see if he stops shivering.
