Pellets for a Budgie

Postby mtaylor1021 » Wed Feb 15, 2012 10:09 am

Anyone know of some good pellets for a budgie? When I got him he was on an all seed diet. I switched him to half seed half pellet, but the pellets I have are these colored things I don't like.

Try Harrison's adult lifetime fine. They are good for small birds, my tiel loves them.

I'm in the UK so i get it from northern parrots online or my vets or midland parrots (they do online too) if im in those areas when I need some. They do charge for delivery though if your orders under a certain amount which can rack up the cost so I've started to buy it in bulk and freeze it if I order online.

From what I've heard, it could be dangerous to feed a budgie pellets that are not specifically formulated for budgies since they are low nutrition birds. So feeding them a pellet that is high in nutrition could cause kidney/liver malfunction. At least that's what I've been told on the forum.

That having been said, I'm still going to feed my budgie harrison's as a supplement if I can get him eating the pellet.
I'm planning to feed him a bit of harrison's at breakfast but keep the rest of the diet to fruits/veggies and sprouted seeds , since they're much healthier and lower in fat than just plain dry seed.
The difficult part is getting your budgie to accept the pellets as a supplement, since they are generally picky eaters and will just pick out what they like or refuse to eat what they don't and wait to get what they do like.

You can grind the pellets and mix it with mash/veggies/seeds. I do that.
