baby cockatiel sneezing

Postby xxarmando » Thu Feb 16, 2012 8:46 am

Hello my brother recently purchased a baby cockatiel. We believe he is about 1-2 months old. He is already weaned and eats and drinks well. Yet he does sneeze. He sneezes randomly dry sneezes. He is a little dusty now since he hasn't been taking regular baths yet and he does sneeze when he gets too much water in his nose. His sneezes are all dry no gooey stuff yet he dry sneezes often is this normal? Thanks so much for the help :)

There could be dust around him and not just on him. Check for dust in his food and cage. Eliminate any dust in his suroundings.

He could also have an upper resperatory infection in which case he must see an avian vet.

Thanks liz :) Actually my mom and I clean and dust the house daily with a wet cloth so the chance of it being dust is low. Have any of your cockatiels ever sneezed regularly?

They sneeze now and then.

Check for dust in your birds seed. Pour the seed on a dry washcloth and move it around before giving to the bird. The washcloth will collect any dust. Put food in shallow bowl so your bird won't have to go through the empty shells to get to the good seed.

If it does not stop sneezing when you do this - take it to a vet for a check up.

He sneezes almost everyday. Dry sneezing and he doesn't project any liquid. He is a baby he has to be from 1-2 months old I could post a pic if you think it would help.

Hmmmm......to be honest, I don't think we can really be sure if it is normal or not, it's probably best to call a vet just to be sure.
