Homemade Bird Treats

Postby Lesa1211 » Sun Mar 25, 2012 12:13 pm

I found a recipe on youtube for homemade bird treats. Here's the recipe:

2 cups crushed cheerio's
2 cups bird seed
1 cup honey

Crush Cheerio's in a bowl, add seed and mix. Add honey and mix until thick. Press in a baking dish (i used a glass one). Bake at 250 for 1hr, it will be a little runny. Once cooled you can form little balls or form it on popsicle sticks, or whatever else is bird safe. Once you have it all formed bake at 200 for 30min to 1hr so it's not sticky. Store in an air tight container.
If you would rather watch the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BHoH0RyAlI

Has anyone ever tried this recipe? I followed it and when I put them back in the oven once they were formed the would just get soft again. I tried it twice. What I did end up doing was putting them in the freezer to harden them up for a little then putting them in a container, but the are still a little sticky.

Im searching for some homemade treat recipes for my goffin.

I have never done this recipe. But I have done this one:
Take seeds or pellets or both depending on what you feed
Mix with an egg white till throughly covered but not runny if it is running add more seed or pellets
Then add alittle cinnamon and mix in
Bake at 375 for 5-10 mins depending on your oven until they are firm and not soft at all
refrigerate leftover cookies in an airtight container.
I got this recipe off another forum and my birds love it.
