WEIRD BEHAVIOR.

Postby TheGirons » Sun Sep 16, 2012 12:25 pm

Hey everyone! Just needing some advice or if anyone has had a similar experience.

Our conure, Mango, started acting a bit weird yesterday.

Since yesterday: she falls asleep on her perch with her right claw lifted in the air..........:s
she doesn't always do it, but she does it enough that we noticed...

Since today: she squats down while she is on her perch and lifts her tail in the air, and sort of spreads her wings a bit, she seems to be straining....like if she was to lay an egg, but nothing happens...she has done this a few times today

also she keeps fluffing herself up and makes weird noises.

she bite me this morning when i approached her to "step up".

could she be in heat?

any information or suggestions could help. Thank you again!!

Sleeping on one foot is quite normal.

How old is she now? Is she straining at all to poop?

Fluffed feathers and standing on one foot means that it is cold. Squating could mean it is cold. As for the straining - put a piece of white paper in the cage to see if there are droppings.

If she keeps straining [I dont know how old she is] I would get her to a vet ,maybe a stuck egg.

Nika and most parrots I see fluff up and stand on one foot when content, napping, or sleeping. :] As to the other issues, everyone else has good ideas.
