The lentils I’m using have salt too. But at least those are rinsed. All the pilaf pouches I’m finding have salt and other stuff added. No wonder the stuff smells so good when I cook it.
Yes, I always run the canned stuff over warm water for a loooooong time so as to 'clean it up' of salt. I once tried cooking hominy on my own and it came out tough no matter how long I boiled it so I decided then to use only the canned one. I get the large cans [and I do mean LARGE] of a brand called Juanita [sold in Walmart] which have much, much, much less salt than any other brand in any size.
I use the Goya. It’s all I can find. It has 16% of the salt a person needs in a day, per serving.
The pilaf was the same amount. 16%. But the pilaf isn’t rinsed.
I’ll just buy the individual grains as I can. Right now they’re just getting the veggies, minus the kale and Sweet potatoes. I add quinoa. I add fruit to it according to what I have. Today it was apple and bananas.
