I was continuing to be very persistent and loving to my juvenile parrot Margie that has had a deal of neglect before she come to me. She was not starved or mistreated, our neighbor was sick and was overwhelmed in taking care of his birds. I asked him to let me have Margie which he was very happy to do. He has known us for a few years and he knows how I take really good care of our pets and love them.
Marige just would not get on my hand after repeated attempts, day and day, month after month. I suddenly got the idea yesterday to use my right hand instead of my left hand and with that offer, she promptly got onto my hand! For some reason, she rejects my left hand but does not mind getting on my right hand. She has been talking and even has learned to say my husband name, Robert. Since I call out to him I knew it would not be long when she would learn his name. She even says, "hello Robert". Our neighbor told me that she can bark like the dogs too. She has not done that yet. She also says, "Fine" and "don't you be lying". I guess she picked things up from conversations our neighbor would have with his son. I am thankful she never picked up bad language. She is a real sweet parrot. I talk to her all the time and say things to reinforce her, even if she does not know what I am saying, she loves the tone of voice I use to her. She does seem to love baby talk.
